A Brief History

On June 30, 2000, U.S. Congress passed a federal law know as ESIGN (The Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act). The ESIGN act clearly states that a contract or signature “may not be denied legal effect, validity, or enforceability solely because it is in electronic form”. Basically, with this law in place, electronic signatures and records began to carry the same weight as their paper equivalents, and are subject to the same legal scrutiny of authenticity that applies to paper documents.

In 2003, Tom Gonser founded Docusign, a company that provides electronic signature technology and Digital Transaction Management services. The company has raised $210 million in financing since it’s founding in 2003, with the Wall Street journal reporting a company valuation of $1.6 billion. Back in 2012 Business Insider reported that roughly 90% of Fortune 500 companies had signed up to use Docusign, who at the time had reached 25 million users who had completed 150 million signatures in 188 countries.

The Right Platforms

Needless to say, Docusign is the 800-pound gorilla in the electronic signature SaaS market. As such many of our customers have expressed the need for a Docusign Infusionsoft integration (especially over the last year). One of the reasons we hesitated to produce an off-the-shelf Docusign Infusionsoft solution was due to the fact that Docusign (like many of its competitors) charges handsome prices to have monthly access to their API.

After having conversation with many Infusionsoft users, it was apparent that they didn’t want to be on the hook for an Enterprise Edition of Docusign, an Infusionsoft Subscription and a subscription to whatever solution we’d end up developing. So the idea sat on the shelf for a while, and it might have just stayed there indefinitely…

The Solution

But then we realized that earlier this year we had already developed everything needed to achieve the integration – Parsey to the rescue! We recently implemented Parsey for a few Docusign/Infusionsoft users and the integration is working beautifully. The best part is that we pulled it all off with out our customers needing Docusign’s most expensive plan. It can actually be configured with a $10/mo Docusign plan and a FREE Parsey account.

    We want to integrate the Infusionsoft with docusign so that we can have customer information, intake information and credit card billing section all on one long form. Is that possible?

      Hi Lia,

      Not sure how your comment slipped through the cracks but it just bubbled to the top here. Yes, you can definitely intake info, update the contact record, create a credit card attached to the contact, even create an order and mark it as paid or unpaid. When we first launched this, we didn’t have the add CC to Contact Record event, so it’s probably good I didn’t comment at that time ;)
